Pathological causes of underweight: what are they?

Unjustified weight loss means a noticeable decrease in body weight without the person making any attempts to lose weight, so this may be an indication of the presence of diseases or serious health problems that require treatment as soon as possible, so what are the causes of pathological weight loss?

Pathological causes of underweight

Body weight can fluctuate between rise and fall regularly, but persistent and unexplained weight loss of more than 5% of body weight over a period of 6 to 12 months is usually a cause for concern, especially if it is accompanied by other symptoms, such as :

Fatigue

Anorexia.

Change in toilet-going habits.

Recurring infection.

Under weight may be caused by different reason this can be medical problem or some other reasons are mentioned below.

1. Hyperthyroidism

The thyroid gland produces some hormones that regulate the metabolism in the body, so the increased levels of these hormones as a result of hyperthyroidism, and can often lead to the body burning a lot of energy and calories more than usual, causing weight loss, and may Other symptoms of hyperthyroidism include:

Fatigue.

Shivering with a tremor of the hands.

They are muscular.

difficulty sleeping

Rapid heartbeat.

Mood changes, such as irritability or nervousness.

diarrhea.

A lump in the neck as a result of an enlarged thyroid gland.

2. Depression

Weight loss can be a symptom of depression, . According to my point of view depression disturb our life  and it mainly effect the part of brain which can cause poor appetite and eventually also cause weight loss

Constant sadness.

Loss of interest in hobbies.

Low energy.

Poor focus.

Too little or too much sleep.

Thinking of death or suicide.

irritability;

3. Addison's disease

Adrenal hypofunction (Addison's disease)

over view

Adrenal cortex hypofunction is a disease caused by a deficiency of hormones secreted by the adrenal cortex.

Often found in young to middle-aged dogs, but very rare in cats.It is also found in humans.

It is caused by the destruction of the adrenal cortex due to idiopathic, infectious diseases, tumors, and side effects of Cushing's drugs. Idiopathic disease is common in dogs, but many are thought to be associated with autoimmunity.

Insufficient corticosteroids can lead to loss of energy, loss of appetite, vomiting, and weight loss, but symptoms alone are difficult to distinguish from other illnesses. If the ion balance in the body progresses, it may lead to shock conditions (Addison's disease) such as convulsions, hypotension, and hypothermia, and emergency treatment may be required.

[Treatment]

Addison's disease requires treatment with hormonal agents. Determine the appropriate dosage and frequency while checking the symptoms and tests. In many cases, it can be maintained well with only one type of drug, but depending on the situation, two drugs may be used together. If treatment with oral medicine does not work, treatment with injection may be given. If you have Addison's disease, you must first respond to a shock condition such as intravenous drip treatment. When you are ready to eat and drink, you will move on to treatment with oral medicine.

Addison's disease has a good prognosis if properly treated.

Forward.

4. Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)

Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a general term for diseases of unknown cause that cause chronic inflammation or ulcers in the mucous membranes of the large intestine and small intestine.

Ulcerative colitis is a diffuse, nonspecific inflammation of the large intestine of unknown cause that primarily affects the mucous membranes and forms erosions and ulcers. It usually causes symptoms such as bloody diarrhea, mucous stools, and abdominal pain. Many patients have repeated relapses and remissions, which can be a disease that may require long-term management.

On the other hand, Crohn's disease is mainly found in young people, and inflammation and ulcers (mucosal defects) can occur in any part of the digestive tract from the oral cavity to the anus, but especially in the small intestine and large intestine. The terminal part of the small intestine is the most common site. It is characterized by discontinuous lesions (the presence of a normal part between lesions). These lesions cause systemic symptoms such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloody stools, fever, and weight loss.

Ulcerative colitis

In principle, medical treatment with medicine is performed. However, surgery is required in severe cases or when drug therapy does not work.

1) Medical treatment

Currently, there is no medical treatment that can cure ulcerative colitis, but there are effective drug treatments that reduce intestinal inflammation.

The purpose of treatment is to control the abnormal inflammation of the large intestine mucosa and control the symptoms.

5. Muscle loss

Muscle loss, or what's referred to as dystrophy , occurs when muscles shrink and their mass decreases, and this condition can cause unexplained weight loss, and there are many reasons that cause this condition, including:

Lack of physical activity as a result of injury.

Malnutrition.

aging.

Apoplexy.

Multiple Sclerosis.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

6. Rheumatoid arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the joints as the immune system attacks the lining of the joints. Chronic inflammation can speed up metabolism and reduce body weight. People with rheumatoid arthritis may experience muscle atrophy due to their inability to engage in activity. Regular physical activity due to joint pain.

some of the medicines can also cause side effects which cause loss of appetite

7. Cancer

According to amercian cancer society, weight loss more than 10

What is the risk of developing cancer that you lose with proper weight?

Increased risk of cancer death, whether fat or thin

Cancer mortality risk and weight

Calculated with 170 cm for men and 160 cm for women

It has long been known that metabolic syndrome increases the risk of cancer, but lighter weight increases the risk of cancer.

Recently, sarcopenia (decrease in skeletal muscle) has attracted attention, and elderly people are instructed to take more protein. Losing weight lowers autoimmunity and increases the risk of developing cancer.

Therefore, if you are overweight, you are more likely to get cancer, and if you lose weight, your immunity is weakened and you are more likely to get cancer.

Therefore, the proper weight during that period is attracting attention. The appropriate weight is a BMI (body mass index) calculated from height and weight, from 20 to 26, ideally 22.5.

The results show that for men, the appropriate weight is 55 kg or more and less than 80 kg, and for women, 50 kg or more and less than 70 kg has a low risk of developing cancer.

That's because cancer increases inflammation, which promotes muscle damage and disrupts appetite-regulating hormones, and a growing tumor can also increase the quantity of energy the body burns at rest.

8. Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is also a common pathological cause of underweight.
